How to E-Verify Income Tax Return Online for AY 2025-26 (FY 2024-25)

Online ITR verification is a very important step in completing the ITR filing process. It must be done within 30 days from the date of filing the ITR, or else the income tax department will deem your return invalid. However, where the return is filed on or before 31.07. 2022 the earlier time limit of 120 days would continue to apply.

  • Methods to E-Verify ITR
    • Through Tax2win (One-click e-verification)
    • Without logging into the e-filing portal
    • After login to the e-filing portal
    • Aadhaar OTP
    • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
    • Existing EVC
    • Generate EVC through Net Banking, Bank Account, ATM, or Demat Account
    • Offline Verification by sending signed ITR-V to CPC, Bangalore
  • E-Verify ITR Through Tax2win
    • After filing ITR, a pop-up reminds you to verify within 30 days.
    • Click “Proceed for e-verification”.
    • Select Aadhaar, Demat, or Bank Account as the mode.
    • Successful verification generates ITR-V via email.
    • If you skip, you can e-verify later from the dashboard.
  • E-Verify Without Login
    • Visit Income Tax e-filing portal.
    • Click e-Verify Return.
    • Enter PAN, Assessment Year, ITR Acknowledgment Number, Mobile Number.
    • Enter 6-digit OTP sent to mobile.
    • OTP valid for 15 minutes, 3 attempts allowed.

    • If e-verifying after 30 days, submit Condonation of Delay with reason.
    • Select preferred e-verification mode.
    • Successful verification shows Transaction ID, EVC, and sends confirmation via email and mobile.
  • E-Verify After Login (Online)

    Process 1: Aadhaar OTP

    • Must link PAN with Aadhaar and mobile.
    • Log in → e-file → Income Tax Returns → e-Verify Return → select Aadhaar OTP.
    • Enter OTP → “Return successfully verified” acknowledgment.

    Process 2: Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

    • DSC contains owner details, public key, issuer signature, expiration.
    • Select DSC verification → download emSigner utility → install → select provider, certificate → Sign.
    • Success message with Transaction ID is generated.

    Process 3: Electronic Verification Code (EVC)

    • Generate EVC via:

    • Net Banking

    • Bank ATM

    • Bank Account

    • Demat Account

    • Enter EVC on the e-filing portal → verification successful.

    Process 4: Net Banking

    • Log in to Net Banking → e-Filing portal → E-Verify → ITR verified.

    Process 5: Bank ATM

    • Swipe ATM → select PIN for e-Filing → receive EVC → enter EVC on portal.

    Process 6: Bank Account Number

    • Pre-validate bank account → generate OTP → enter EVC on portal.

    Process 7: Demat Account Number

    • Pre-validate Demat account → generate OTP → enter EVC on portal.

  • Offline ITR Verification
    1. After filing, select Verify via ITR-V.

    2. Log in → e-file → view filed return → download ITR-V.

    3. Print, sign with blue ink, and send to:
      CPC, Income Tax Department, Bangalore - 560500, Karnataka, India.
