What is CSR Registration?

CSR Registration allows NGOs, trusts, and societies to legally receive CSR funding from companies in India. Organizations must file Form CSR-1 with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). Once approved, they receive a unique CSR Registration Number required to participate in CSR projects.

Mandatory since April 1, 2021, CSR-1 registration ensures transparency and compliance with the 2025 amendments, which require complete and up-to-date organizational information.

Purpose of Form CSR-1

The form ensures that:

  • Only verified NGOs and societies receive CSR funds.
  • CSR funds are used for genuine social projects.
  • Government maintains a record of eligible organizations.
  • Companies can identify trustworthy partners for CSR initiatives.

Governing Law

CSR Registration is regulated under:

  • Companies Act, 2013 – Section 135
  • Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Amendment Rules, 2021
