What is a Make in India Certificate?

The Make in India Certificate certifies that a product is manufactured or assembled in India, aligning with the Government’s 'Make in India' initiative to promote local manufacturing. Although not an official government-issued certificate, it serves as a verified declaration under the PPP-MII policy for tenders and procurement.

Eligibility for Make in India Certificate

Supplier Category Indian Content Requirement Benefits
Class-I Local Supplier ≥50% First preference in government tenders and contracts
Class-II Local Supplier 20%–49% Can participate if Class-I suppliers are unavailable
Non-Local Supplier <20% Not eligible for Make in India benefits

Note: Contracts below Rs. 10 crores allow self-certification; above Rs. 10 crores require CA or statutory auditor verification.

How to Calculate Local Content Percentage

Formula:

Local Content (%)=Value of Indian PartsTotal Product Cost×100\text{Local Content (\%)} = \frac{\text{Value of Indian Parts}}{\text{Total Product Cost}} \times 100Local Content (%)=Total Product CostValue of Indian Parts×100

Example:
Total product cost = ₹1,00,000
Indian parts & labor = ₹60,000

Local Content=60,0001,00,000×100=60%\text{Local Content} = \frac{60,000}{1,00,000} \times 100 = 60\%Local Content=1,00,00060,000×100=60%

→ Class-I Local Supplier
